Dear Potential New Member:

We hope you take this opportunity to attain this high honor by participating in the once a year application process for the Omega Zeta chapter of Order of Omega. Please read this entire letter as it provides an overview of the application process.

Order of Omega is an all-Greek honor society. The purpose of Order of Omega is to recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of scholarship, leadership in interfraternal activities, and service to the University of Florida and Gainesville communities.
Selection for membership is determined in four ways: academic success, community service, character and leadership within the Florida Greek, UF, and Gainesville communities. To be eligible for membership in the Order of Omega, a student must meet the following minimum requirements:

a. Have completed one full academic year at the University of Florida
b. Junior or Senior standing (60+ hours completed)
c. Meet or exceed the Florida Greek cumulative GPA (3.27 based on Spring 2009 Florida All-Greek GPA)
d. Be in good standing with his or her fraternal organization

Please turn in a TYPED application following the attached guidelines. We recommend that you approach your chapter President and let them know that you are applying to Order of Omega. Chapter Presidents will be required to sign the applicant’s application to verify that the member is in good standing with the chapter.

Membership within Order of Omega requires a continuous dedication to the organization and the Greek community as a whole. Accepting membership means accepting the responsibility and obligation to the Omega Zeta chapter of Order of Omega. Membership is demanding, and we accept only the best Florida Greek leaders. Attendance in chapter meetings is mandatory, and participation in chapter events is expected each semester.

All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. Please return your typed application to the Office of Sorority & Fraternity Affairs (310 J. Wayne Reitz Union) no later than 4:00 PM on Friday, October 15, 2009. Application fee waivers are available in the office and will be granted based on financial need.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Vice President of Membership, Travus White, at whitet88@ufl.edu.

Thank you for your interest in Order of Omega, and we wish you the best of luck!

Sincerely,

Travus White
Order of Omega
Vice President of Membership

Why Join a Sorority or Fraternity?

Friday, May 01, 2009

Since the founding of the first fraternity in 1776, sororities and fraternities have helped college students throughout North America develop strong networks of support on campus and beyond. Joining a sorority or fraternity will help enhance your collegiate experience by providing support and resources to help your academic, leadership and social development skills.

Research shows that students who develop a sense of belonging and a connection to their college community are more likely to graduate from college. Joining a fraternity or sorority is an excellent way to make that connection and to find your place at the University of Florida. Approximately 5,200 students are members of the 62 fraternities and sororities at UF.

The Florida Greek community is diverse and includes a wide array of organizations to meet the needs of today’s college student. Whether you are interested in a large organization with a house, an organization with an emphasis on culture, or an organization that places emphasis on community service, you will find what you are searching for within the Florida Greek community.
